The Anne Frank Library at The Agnon School is a collection of over 20,000 fiction, nonfiction and picture books as well as early readers. In addition to a wide range of secular material, the library has an impressive collection of classic Jewish children’s literature and books about Israel. Early Childhood and Lower School students have weekly library visits and borrow books. Lively story times, informative research lessons and the large book collection of different types of literature make Agnon’s library a vibrant part of the school.
Agnon Librarian Aimee Lurie holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Ohio State University and a Masters in Library Science from Kent State University.
Aimee has worked in a variety of different libraries, including public libraries and the Jewish libraries at The Temple–Tifereth Israel and Anshe Chesed Fairmount Temple.
She is active in the Cleveland chapter of Association of Jewish Libraries (AJL) and has also reviewed books for the AJL newsletter and Voice of Youth Advocates, a bimonthly journal addressing librarians, educators and other professionals who work with young adults.
Beginning in January 2010, Aimee will serve a four-year term on the AJL Sydney Taylor Book Award Committee, a group whose mission is to select the best books that authentically reflect the Jewish experience for children. As a committee member, Lurie will read and review every new Jewish children’s book published throughout the next four years. Each summer, she will attend the AJL National Convention and participate on a panel that discusses new books with librarians worldwide.
Aimee welcomes questions and comments from parents. Please feel free to email her at alurie@agnon.org
